Upper West Side Residents Demand Repairs for NYCHA Brownstones

Cynthia Tibbs, Tenant Association President, Raises Concerns

NYCHA Public Contact: David Pristin, 212-306-3401

Cynthia Tibbs, Tenant Association President at NYCHA's West Side Urban Redevelopment (WSUR) brownstones, has expressed urgent concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of these public housing units.

Tibbs stated that residents have been anticipating heavy rainfall on Friday and are worried about the potential consequences. Several brownstones on W 89th Street have experienced ceiling leaks and other structural issues in similar weather conditions in the past.

According to Tibbs, these brownstones are part of a cluster of 36 historic units preserved by NYCHA in 1968. However, despite their historical significance, they have suffered from chronic neglect and require immediate attention.

NYCHA officials are urged to take prompt action to address these concerns. Residents of the WSUR Brownstones deserve safe and habitable living conditions. The agency has a responsibility to ensure that these public housing units meet the standards of quality and safety expected by its tenants.
